JohnCon 2010 Updates & Fan Fiction Contest Details

JohnCon Schedule Updates

As we recently noted in our official JohnCon 2010 Schedule, the official Magic: The Gathering tournament has been canceled. A new Magic event, however, will be replacing it. Disorganization XIII has informed us that they will be hosting a “Magic: The Gathering cube” of their own. Both of these updates have been made to the official schedule and marked as such. Don’t forget, JohnCon begins this Friday!

The JohnCon Fanfiction Contest

“Are you a fanfiction writer? Are you good at getting into characters’ heads, or writing exciting plots, or describing the flames of a supernova? Then submit to the JohnCon Fanfiction Contest!”

Requirements:

  • Fanfic can be for any fandom with sci-fi or fantasy elements, including anime.
  • Fanfic must stand alone, though it can be a one-short or chapter/part of a longer story.
  • Word Limit: 1500 words
  • Submissions must follow the following format:
  • E-Mail Subject Line: ffcontest: NAME – Title
  • Fanfiction attached to the e-mail
  • The header of the fanfic should read:
    • Title:
    • Fandom:
    • Word Count:
    • Rating: G/PG/PG-13/R/NC-17
    • Other Important Info: (e.g. A/U, high school fic, etc.)”
  • Be careful that your name appears only in the subject line of the e-mail and/or the e-mail itself, but not in the fanfic attachment.
  • No porn. No matter how amazing your Captain Jack tentacle porn is, not everyone else’s is, and we need to save that brain bleach for exams. (This is seriously the official description the JohnCon crew sent us, we couldn’t make this stuff up!)

The contest will be judged like any writing contest, so writing, plotting, pacing, spelling, grammar, and in-fic characterization count for a lot. Being in-character is also important, so please try to do a relatively well-known fandom!

The submission deadline is Saturday 4/17 at 3pm. All submissions should be sent to Corinne Warren at corinneewarren[at]gmail[dot]com.

Submit and, most importantly, have fun! :-)

Prizes of “awesome significance” will be awarded for the top 3 fics.
