Thinking of getting a PS3… if I get a job

As some of you know, the Wii is the only current-gen system that I own. I've always been a huge nintendo fan. I love motion controls. I've never cared too much about high-end graphics, and I didn't have an HDTV when all the systems came out anyway. So looking at those more-expensive systems with their more-expensive games (and few appealing titles IMO), I just didn't see a reason to buy in.
Now things are a bit different. I have an HDTV. PS3 is half its original price. They actually have some good games now. And I would like the ability to play Blu-rays on my HDTV. I am currently job-hunting and if I do get a good job, I figure I may celebrate by treating myself to a PS3 and a couple games.
So i wanted to put this out there to you guys. Any thoughts? Which games should I get if I do get a PS3? Or maybe you want to convince me to get a 360 instead (Just warnign you, I am very anti-Microsoft so that will be a challenge). Any advice or comments are welcome.

well… i can tell you now that Sony has pissed off a lot of game devlopers to the point of leaving altogether.
Sony for some reason thinks that since its a BLUERAY too, that its can keep its high price point. and for the 1st 2 years of blueray's life, the PS was the cheapest BR player on the market.
Now you can get BR players for 99$ on black fridays, NOW WHAT?
ALl i know is that SONY has made the PS extremely hard to devlope on, and with its high price point, devlopers are actually loosing money Dev' for Sony. Thats why 4 game companies have announced leaving PS next generation, and Activision JUST annouced they are about too as well.
As i sit here on my Mac, i can equally state that M$ is evil, but they do make a great product. YEa yea… Xbox 1 was catching houses on fire. and the 360 overheated 1/6th of all units sold, but they stand by their sh!t and even extended the warranty 3 years because they fuct up.
The only thing anyone ever has to complain about with the 360 game wise is the lack of family, kid friendly games. That has changed with the introduction of XBL arcade and XNA. Speakign of which what other system can you create your own videogames and sell to the world?
I Left PSthe 1st time I played Xbox and have never looked back.
It was the best choice i ever made.

I'm not worried about a lack of family-friendly titles. I have Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus. Both of which are great fun games that you can play even when Grandma's over (Not to mention that they help to keep me from getting fat again).
I guess you are right, the blu-ray is not that big a deal anymore and the prices will only go down. I do much prefer the 360 controller over the PS3 controller. And it's cheaper. I guess I have some stuff to think about. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe it's just me, but the PS3 holds absolutely no interest for me. If I want a BluRay player, I'll buy a dedicated one. Nothing else on the PS3 beats or even comes near what the 360 has to offer.
Sony is just as “evil” as MS (and yes, even as an MVP I have issues with some things MS does; we MVPs are some of the harshest and most vocal critics. You should hear us when we visit MS every year!), even more so in the way they've ticked off game developers. Everything I've read indicates it's much more difficult to develop games for the PS3 than the 360 and developing for the 360 isn't much different than for the PC so you can use most of the same code for both if you set it up correctly.
With Natal coming out, there's less reason for the Wii as well. I do have one for my son and some games are ok on it, but between the PC and 360 I have more games already than I can play in a dozen years.

dont get ahead of yourself. Natal is still a concept.
We goto wait for technology to get cheaper before you cram a full motion capture machine inside a videogame console.
turnkey motion capture boxes on the cheap-end run 10k. whoknows, maybe itll be cheaper in 3 years, but the technology HAS to catchup 1st.
People forget E3 is NOW like car show, before this year… devlopers kept their "w.i.p.s" under lock and key… this year things like Natal and Milo are CONCEPTS and are to be taken with the same gain of salt as future cars at car shows.

I have mixed feelings about Natal. I think it has potential for some genres, but I don't think it will do a lot of what Wii does. At least not as well. Now that all 3 companies are on the motion bandwagon, it will all be about how effectively they are able to take advantage of the technologies and turn them into great games. I think we have seen the end of the days that any home system has one permanent controller for its entire lifetime.
I think that it has it's greatest potential in the voice and facial recognition. I could imagine a war game where you can be shooting and stuff and yell commands to your troops. Or even a secret agent game where you have to convincingly interact with the enemies undercover, and if you look nervous they get suspicious. But still, I would want to race or play golf by holding a physical controller, and I would much rather skateboard using a board than a camera.

I think if they do away with controllers all together, you will see a backlash of gamers at the new system. As systems grow in price, youll see a small shift towards oldergamers, because only adults really can afford a 600$ system. Beside parents. As the 1st Generation of gamers, (GenX, GenY) get older, we are not going to take kindly to complete change, Yea Wii is great, but I use the arcade contoller 90% of the time.
They Need to leave the static controllers in videogames until were all dead in the ground.

Developers are already using the SDK for it. I would expect to see something in the next couple of years.

Reasons for gettign a ps3
1.) Little Big Planet – Its a platiformer and preety much a love letter to super mario games. Only allowing you to make whatever you want. Its very simplistic controls so it allows everyone to play. Its 4 players so me and all my friends can run around and make whatever we want.
2.) Heavy Rain -I'd wait for this one to price drop but it asks the question of what can a game be? And for this it is a interactive like story with mutiple endings. I'm not that into it after i beat it but friends keep goingback and replaying it.
3.) free online and i don't think sony gonna change that anytime soon. If they do i can see alot of there audience not paying for it at all.

Yes, I do have a job now
. Also, most of the people I've talked to lately have recommended PS3, so I'm definitely leaning heavily that way. I just need time to actually play.

Reasons for PS3
LittleBigPlanet – simple platiformer that allows anyone to try to make anything. Its four players so thats allways the game that i ususally tend to pull out at partys.
Fat Princess – Like TF2 only meeting cute cuddlier avatars. Gotta Love it. Simplistic yet challenging.
Free online – Do i need to put anything here? If you don't have a job having online that cost money is a huh whaaat?

Nice to see some fresh faces in this thread!
I'm definitely going with the PS3 over the 360 at this point. Just a matter of when. Right now I'm playing Red Steel 2 in the little free time I have. Very fun.
